My Experience
I have worked with vulnerable people within the community.
As an expert by experience I have attended Care Education and Treatment Reviews (CETR’s) over 12 years.
I currently attend the Learning Disability Partnership Board at Doncaster as a carer.
My Skills and Knowledge
I am a carer for my son who has a learning disability, moderate autism and Addison’s Disease which is a rare potentially life-threatening condition.
I have previously worked within the community with people with a learning disability, autism and mental health who may challenge.
What is important to me
My son, my sister and close friends I have known for over 40 years.
People to have choice, a voice and to be listened to. Person centred planning, annual health checks, to be able to speak up.

Hello my name is Kay and I am an Expert by Experience at Inclusion North.
I have experience in Learning disability, autism, carer’s groups, older vulnerable people and Addision’s disease. Older peoples care and treatment.
Chair Doncaster Local Mencap, Doncaster Healthwatch board director, chaired Doncaster care’s action group and the Doncaster strategic Group.
I have been a volunteer within Doncaster for over 25years to help improve services for Learning disability and family carers which I have worked alongside the local council to positively resign shared lives/respite services for family carers to enable them to have better care in the community. Charing a group to promote a carers card and working with the acute liaison nurse to encourage people with a learning disability the importance of the traffic light system for going into hospital.
I was previously been a carer on my Clinical Commissioning Board, then a brief spell on the newly formed Integrated Care Board. My worked involved:
• Community dentist pathway
• Enter and view health and social care premises
• Care and treatment reviews
• Discharge from hospital for vulnerable older people
• Local Authority Direct payments for people with a learning disability.
• Shadowing the Short term enablement team within the community.
• Working with the carers strategic lead/local authority staff to have better understanding/training of the complexity carers face and better sign-posting for carers when carers contact their local council.
• Over 15 years ago chairing a workshop/a awareness about the “Herbert Protocol” safe and sound.
