What is the Reasonable Adjustment Flag?
The Reasonable Adjustment Flag is a computer tool. It stores important information about people’s reasonable adjustments.
Reasonable adjustments are things Doctors, Dentists and hospitals can do to support people to get good healthcare.
This can be things like needing a phone call instead of a letter, or wanting to take someone you trust into an appointment with you.
Lots of people with disabilities can get reasonable adjustments to help them feel more confident and comfortable.
The Reasonable Adjustment Flag is important. It means health services can see what your needs are, so you don’t have to keep asking for support.
Inclusion North worked with a group of experts by experience from the North East and Cumbria. We shared information about the Reasonable Adjustment Flag and talked about ways to make sure other people get this information.
They have made videos. In the videos they talk about the reasonable adjustments they need. The videos will help people understand the Reasonable Adjustment Flag and how to ask for reasonable adjustments.
What is the Reasonable Adjustment Flag?
The Reasonable Adjustment Flag is a new digital computer tool which stores important information about patients’ reasonable adjustments.
It will hold records for all patients in England who have been flagged as needing reasonable adjustments. A record is created for a patient when a health or social care worker first records the patient’s reasonable adjustments, and will provide:
- basic context about the person
- key adjustments and the details related to this
- further information to aid health and care workers
Reasonable adjustments are things health professionals can do to support people to get good healthcare. They can be in relation to a wide range of support needs, including vision, hearing, mobility, dexterity, learning/understanding/concentrating, and more.
Autistic people and people with learning disabilities often need support to know their rights around reasonable adjustments and encouragement to identify and implement these. The Reasonable Adjustment Flag will help health staff immediately access the information, but also mean people who need reasonable adjustments don’t have to repeatedly request these.
Our work
Inclusion North worked with a group of experts by experience North East and Cumbria to share information about the Reasonable Adjustment Flag.
The experts by experience have made a videos. They have shared their experiences of accessing healthcare and the reasonable adjustments they need. The video will help people understand the Reasonable Adjustment Flag. It will help people to know their rights so they can ask for support.
The experts also supported North East and Cumbria Integrated Care Board to create a toolkit. This is a series of resources community organisations will be able to use to support their members to understand and access their reasonable adjustments.
Our thanks to Media Savvy for their work on the videos, and to everyone who supported this work.
