Between 2021 and 2025 The Henry Smith Charity funded Inclusion North to create and deliver 3 levels of leadership courses for people with a learning disability and autistic people. These courses were co-designed and delivered by Leadership Coaches with lived experience of autism and learning disability. The courses aimed to empower people to be active leaders in their communities, to speak up for people’s rights, and to demand equality and help shape better support and services.
In 2025 we delivered our last interactive sessions. Having previously delivered three levels which required participants to join all sessions over a term, this time we took a slightly different approach. We co-created a series of stand-alone online workshops. People could treat the workshops like a menu and pick and choose the ones they were interested in. In 2025 we ran four rounds of workshops, delivering 19 sessions in total, with 44 people taking part.
We used Powerpoint to deliver sessions and used Easy Read design for all information, from application forms to feedback surveys. We combined sharing information with lots of opportunities to have discussion, ask questions, and take part in fun activities.
We have now recorded these workshops as short videos. You can watch these videos with your groups, or share them with people to watch in their own time. They are:
