Work with Newcastle City Council, running a series of workshops with people with a learning disability, autistic people and family carers

Throughout February 2026 we will be running 3 workshops with family carers to find out what they want to see happen to improve the lives of the people that they care for and themselves.

Throughout March 2026 we will be running another 3 workshops with the family carer group, people with learning disabilities and autistic people, plus professionals – to focus on creating a statement for professionals around strength-based language.

These workshops will aim to:

·        Reduce the use of dehumanising and overly clinical language.

·        Promote a shared, compassionate understanding of respectful communication.

·        Strengthen consistency across Newcastle and wider in how people are spoken about and referred to.
