My Experience

 

Family carer from Sheffield with a profoundly disabled son.

10 years working at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway supporting family carers.

Working with and supporting family carers on Learning Disability Partnership Boards by facilitating a group of carers to have a voice around issues affecting them and the people they care for.

 

My Skills and Knowledge

 

Understanding issues surrounding people who have been admitted to hospital.

Advocate for family carers of people with a learning disability or autism.

Alway put the interests of people being reviewed first.

 

What is important to me

 

When at care and treatment Reviews the needs of the patient are put first and looking to see how their treatment can be improved.

My son continues to get the support he enjoys now and in the future.

Spending time with my grandchildren.

Walking in the nearby Derbyshire countryside.

Reading – I will read almost anything.
