Hospitals are not Homes
This page tells you about the Hospitals are not Homes booklets.
The ‘Hospitals not Homes’ booklet tells you how to get involved in making Transforming Care happen in your area, and the questions you can ask.
Transforming Care is the work that the Government is doing to make sure that:
- People with learning disabilities and/or autism do not have to go to specialist hospitals unless they really need to
- People get good care and support that is right for them in their local area instead
This work is happening because of 2 reports that looked into the abuse at Winterbourne View. They were called ‘Transforming Care’ and ‘Transforming Care for People with Learning Disabilities Next Steps’.
In 2015 a new big plan was made called ‘Building the Right Support’ it says what local areas should do to:
- Stop so many people going into specialist hospitals
- Give people good support and services in their community
The National Forum of People with Learning Disabilities and the National Valuing Families Forum wrote the ‘Hospitals not Homes’ booklets to help people with learning disability and autism and their families be part of this work.
The booklets tell you:
- What should be happening
- Who to speak to
- What questions to ask
