I live just outside Bakewell in Derbyshire with my husband Steve - we have 3 children who have now grown up, two of them live in Canada and one lives locally in Dronfield. We keep our own hens and so have lots of fresh eggs and have two cats - to keep the mice away.

I am a disabled person - I have a long term health condition - I use a direct payment to employ a personal assistant, my personal assistant Julie has worked with me for 17 years.

I have worked with lots of local and national organisations run and controlled by disabled people.

I think it is really important for all disabled people and people with a learning disability to have choice and control in their lives.

I am very passionate about empowering people to ensure they know and understand what options are available to them and what is important to them in their everyday lives.

I managed the first Experts by Experience programme with the Commission for Social Care Inspection (now called the Care Quality Commission) in 2006 when I worked for the National Centre for Independent Living.

I support my friends, family ans some of my old colleagues with personal budgets and personal health budgets on a voluntary basis.

I have knowledge and skills in Adult Social Care and Continuing Health Care - and how to access services. This includes assessment, managing a personal budget or personal health budget, support planning to get the rifht outcomes and person centred support.
