I am a family carer living in Redcar and Cleveland and am a parent of two boys with additional needs - Alfie is 17 and has a dual diagnosis of Down's Syndrome and Autism. Sam is 19 yrs with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. I also have a daughter Helen and two grandchildren named Brooke and Blake. Very soon after the birth of Alfie I became very active in many aspects of disability to support not only my own family but others too. I am delighted to be working with Inclusion North - I have two roles - one is Expert Advisor which is an independent panel member invited to Care and Treatment Reviews· The second role is Parent Advisor covering the North East and this is a one-year project to identify family carers (including siblings) of adults with a learning disability, autism or both and to explore issues that are affecting them.
I am currently Vice-Chair on the Board of Trustees of a local charity which specialises in autism. I organise bi-monthly meetings in Redcar and Cleveland for adults living with any disability or long term illness which is called 'A Voice for Disabled People' which I thoroughly enjoy.
I am passionate about equality and inclusion.
My other interests are gardening, reading and socialising with my amazing friends.
